PD Ports has signalled its commitment to maritime families with a new charity partnership with the Sailors’ Children’s Society
Through the new partnership, PD Ports is providing a donation of £5,000 which will help the charity direct more resources to the families who need them.
Founded in 1821, the Sailors’ Children’s Society is a national charity dedicated to helping children and families with seafaring backgrounds through times of emotional and financial hardship.
The charity works with maritime families to help them overcome challenging circumstances, supporting pathways back into employment and education and supporting access to essential items such as school uniforms, clothing, food vouchers and monthly grants.
Although the charity operates with a team of just 10 people based in Hull, its impact is felt nationwide.
The partnership was initiated after Amy Previll, deputy VTS manager at PD Ports’ Harbour Master’s Office, met the charity’s partnership manager, Lee Pearson, at an event in Hull earlier this year.
Lee travelled to meet Amy at the Harbour Master’s Office, in Middlesbrough, to present her with a plaque recognising the new partnership.
Amy said: “When I learned about the Sailors’ Children’s Charity I was completely blown away, especially to hear that there is only a group of 10 people, putting in the time and effort to support these families and children across the UK.”
Given PD Ports’ heritage within the maritime industry, Amy saw an opportunity to support a cause closely aligned with the company’s values.
As the daughter of a seafarer, and a mother herself, she felt a strong personal connection to the charity’s work and the families it supports.
The partnership marks the Sailors’ Children’s Society’s first formal partnership in Middlesbrough and represents another step in the charity’s mission to ensure children from seafaring families receive the support they need to thrive.
