New Vision rapid response vessel enhances Marine operations at PD Ports

PD Ports has strengthened its Marine operations with the introduction of New Vision, a versatile new response vessel designed to support a range of operational and environmental activities across the Ports of Tees and Hartlepool.

Originally acquired as an open deck boat without a wheelhouse, New Vision has been adapted to the requirements of the Marine and Engineering team, its design was created by both the team and a naval architect.

The vessel will play a key role in supporting marine activities, including deployment of pollution control equipment such as booms and skimmers and oil spill equipment, as well as wider safety boat operations.

PD Ports’ Marine director, Chris Stocks, said: “As Statutory Harbour Authority for the Ports of Tees and Hartlepool, maintaining safe and efficient operations is our primary responsibility.

“This new vessel will help us to provide a highly capable response whenever it is required, particularly in environmental incidents when time is of the essence.”

With a speed of 36 knots, New Vision provides a rapid response opportunity, enabling teams to react to incidents and operational demands on the water quickly.

Measuring in 8 meters in length and weighing 3.4 tonnes, the vessel is compact yet full of features.

The enclosed wheelhouse allows for operations to continue even through challenging conditions out on the river.

New Vision’s modern interior is equipped with a comprehensive navigation package including radar and radio systems, providing its skippers with excellent situational awareness and aid safe passage movement.

Powered by a 300hp OXE diesel outboard engine, New Vision is unusual because, unlike many outboard engines run on petrol, its BMW diesel technology is adapted for marine use.

Built from a high-density polyethylene, the vessel is also more durable and has impact resistant qualities to protect itself from the usual knocks or scrapes.

The vessel also has a category 4 certification, allowing it to operate up to 20 miles from the coast in daylight hours, which is significant operational reach for a vessel of its size.
