An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Finance team in a newly created role, Risk and Internal Controls Accountant, supporting the wider Specialist Finance team.

Location: Head Office, Middlesbrough. Hybrid working available with 4 days based in the office.

Working Arrangements: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

 The main things our Risk and Internal Controls Accountant will be working on are:

  • Working with the ERP Project Team and the Finance team to ensure that all key processes and controls within the Finance function are fully documented and maintained with appropriate document management as we transition to the new ERP.
  • Lead the internal controls design and effectiveness reviews, including review and testing of processes.
  • Provide support to the Risk Committee as required by the Chair, collating agendas and responses and escalating concerns from the Resilience forum and business risk and control owners.
  • Act as one of the primary points of contact with external and internal auditors and as a point of contact on all taxation matters, ensuring tax compliance.
  • Input into financial projections and business plans including preparing tax forecasts and projections.
  • Act as a lead representative from Finance on Customs taxes, working with Operations and the Compliance team to ensure retention of wharf approvals, customs warehouse approvals, AEO accreditation.
  • Support with ad-hoc duties and projects as required by the wider Finance team.

We are seeking someone who:

  • Is a qualified accountant or auditor, with previous experience in similar roles.
  • Has strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with a range of people across various roles in the Group.
  • Has strong IT skills.
  • Has excellent financial analysis and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail and a focus on accuracy and compliance.
