Reporting to the Marine Engineering Superintendent, the main purpose of the role is to carryout operational & engineering tasks onboard a marine vessel as part of the crew, ensuring the vessel operates effectively in its function of supporting the River Tees.

Location: Conservancy Department, Vulcan Street, Middlesbrough.
Working Arrangements: 162.5 Hours per month, 12.5 hours shifts, week on/week off shift rotation (covering every other weekend, no planned nightshifts).

The five main areas our Workboat Fitter will be working on are:
• Collaboration – Work as part of a small operational crew daily. Cooperating with other engineer trades and supervisors to ensure smooth execution of repairs and maintenance.
• Component Maintenance and Repairs – performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on components and systems.
• System Testing and Commissioning – routinely or after repair works, conducting system testing and commissioning to ensure systems are functioning correctly.
• Safety Compliance – following company and marine regulations, guidelines, and procedures to safely maintain and operate workboat vessels.
• Documentation and Reporting – maintain accurate records of vessel systems, defects, maintenance tasks and resources used.

We are seeking someone with:
• Experience and Qualification – engineering qualifications of Level 3 or equivalent and experience in mechanical or hydraulic systems. Marine experience would be beneficial but not essential.
• Problem Solving Abilities – being a part of an operational crew will require problem solving skills to trouble shoot issues and finding practical solutions, adapting to multiple systems, and changing situations.
• Adaptability and Flexibility – as part of the workboat function, seeking flexibility and adaptability to handle different vessels, schedules, and projects in a challenging environment.
