PD Ports is once again delighted to partner with UMi to host the PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards for a fourth time in 2020.

The event, which was launched in 2016, recognises the north’s top exporters and celebrates achievements in international trade, while inspiring others to consider exporting as a realistic opportunity for growth.

As one of the largest port groups in the UK, we’re delighted to be part of these awards that celebrate, support and inspire exporting on every scale, as well as raising aspirations to increase international trade.

Our CEO Frans is once again to sit on the judging panel. He said: “The passion people have for their work is evident in every entry, but we’re looking for the whole package. This is everything from innovation in marketing strategies, export growth and what potential lies ahead.

“Not everything is plain sailing when it comes to exporting, but the challenges faced and how they were overcome often tell the best stories and the lessons learned help to motivate others in the industry.

“We want to see the UK export market growing and all entries that can demonstrate ambition to make this happen as well as developing a sustainable, competitive advantage will be held in high regard.”

The North East is the only consistent net exporting region in the country with a successful history of exporting to global markets which ports play a vital role in.

Acting as an enabler for exporters, ports present a major opportunity to increase manufacturing and exports from their local areas, helping to re-balance the economy and from our own site we can see the future potential reinvigorate manufacturing through the Free Ports opportunity.

These ports, which often offer large areas of developable land, act as a gateway to the world for a variety of products from what are often socio-economically challenged areas. By supporting and developing export capabilities, these areas can benefit from the re-balancing of the economy and help to realise the true vision of the Northern Powerhouse.

Kirsten, our head of PR, marketing and communications said: “The Northern Powerhouse Export Awards are the perfect opportunity to profile the outstanding entrepreneurial exporting achievements and acknowledge the innovation, hard work and success of businesses, large and small, in reaching new global markets.

“We are surrounded by incredible businesses that are just ‘getting on with it’ – these businesses will be the ones that make a difference to the strength and stability of the economy in years to come and we need to encourage, celebrate and support that growth.”

The awards are now open for entries with the deadline for submissions 31st January 2020.
