PD Ports continues to build on and broaden partnerships between industry and education by supporting the learning and development of over 150 early year students at Hartburn Primary School in Stockton.

Owners and operators of Teesport, the UK’s third largest port by volume, donated £250 to Hartburn Primary School from the Port’s staff support scheme, which was set up in 2007 to help causes and organisations that employees are actively involved in.

The donation contributed to the School’s wider investment of £20,000 to purchase new reading books as the push to improve communication and literacy levels in Early Years Foundation Stages increases nationally.

Mrs Armstrong, Headteacher at Hartburn Primary School, commented on the donation: “We are incredibly grateful to have received this donation from PD Ports, which will encourage the children to develop their imagination and inspire creativity as well as further develop their reading ability. The school is always grateful of support given by local businesses as it helps us to continue to provide the high quality facilities we strive to give all our pupils.”

PD Ports’ PR and Communications Manager, Kirsten Donkin, said: “Our staff support scheme is just one way in which we are able to raise awareness of Teesport whilst developing valued partnerships with organisations and supporting our employees in making a difference within the local community.

“With national statistics reporting over a third of UK primary school children own no books, we are delighted to be able to support Hartburn Primary School in its proactive efforts to promote reading amongst Early Years children.

“Aligning the business community with education providers is of increasing importance as we aim to establish relationships from an early age to nurture skills and inspire learning for future career development. We are a business that prides itself on continued education and training of our staff to support their future growth and development. It’s very much part of our values.”
