A Lithuanian entrepreneur has turned to the expertise of Hull Container Terminal operator PD Ports, to help develop a Polish export business with a difference.

Tomas Kucinkas, originally from Vilnius, trained as a doctor before changing career to launch a lucrative business venture, in the export of second hand British ‘Mobilus Namas’ or ‘Mobile Homes’.

Due to the current economic climate in Eastern Europe, Poland is currently suffering a high house price to income ratio, with many families forced to consider alternatives to joining the conventional property ladder. Tomas buys caravans from a number of suppliers in the north of England and sells them direct to the end user via his yard in Gdansk.

Paul McGrath, General Manager at PD Ports Hull said: “Tomas and his company were looking for a high quality logistics firm able to handle this delicate freight, and transport it safely by ship to its final destination in Poland. The units are stored securely on land adjacent to the dock, and we are delighted that the first shipload of 24 caravans recently left Hull.”

Tomas commented: “For us it’s not enough to get the units there on time, we need the peace of mind of knowing they will arrive in good condition, and PD Ports can offer us this commitment. We look forward to an effective partnership and hope to expand the operations in the future.”

The unusual nature of the cargo, demonstrates PD Ports ability to diversify away from handling bulks and containers, and to take advantage of key sectors in the region. Hull has long been a centre for touring caravans, motor homes and mobile homes manufacturing, and PD Ports are keen to tap into this market.
