PD Ports is a leading UK ports business offering end-to-end supply chain solutions, employing over 1,300 people in the UK. With headquarters based in the North East of England, PD Ports owns and operates the UK’s third largest port by volume.
The Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager and working in gangs, General Operatives use a variety of cranes, mobile plant and equipment, to safely load and discharge various types of bulk and steel cargo from vessels.
The environment is dynamic and offers a constant challenge so we are therefore seeking candidates who can demonstrate a fully flexible approach and thrive in this environment, whilst ensuring the business achieves its goals and growth targets within the safety first philosophy.
Although based primarily at Groveport there may be a requirement to work in various locations within the PD Ports group providing coverage, as required, over 7 days per week, in line with the business needs.

The Candidate
The successful candidate will be highly motivated and committed to a Safety First philosophy and always be able to comply with safe systems of work, risk assessments and Company policies and procedures.
Experience of slinging, rigging, mobile plant operations (i.e. forklifts, loading shovel and cranes) would be desirable, but not essential, as the Company will provide full training through our nationally accredited programmes, ensuring employees have the right skills, knowledge and competence to perform at the required standard.
In addition, successful candidates will also possess a high standard of numeracy, literacy, IT skills and be able to work under their own initiative or equally be able to work as part of a team. Furthermore, the ability to plan, organise, communicate effectively, solve problems and work under pressure would be highly desirable skills.
Applicants will need to be physically fit in order to meet statutory medical requirements for dockworkers and a full driving license is essential to ensure our employees can safely operate plant and equipment on private and public roads.
