The Role

Reporting to the Allocations Manager and working in gangs, Dock Operatives use a variety of cranes, mobile plant and equipment, to safely load and discharge various types of bulk, break bulk and project cargo from vessels.

The environment is dynamic and offers a constant challenge so we are therefore seeking candidates who can demonstrate a fully flexible approach and thrive in this environment, whilst ensuring the business achieves its goals and growth targets within the safety first philosophy.

Although based primarily at Teesport there may be a requirement to work in various locations within the Teesside area providing coverage, as required, over 24 hours 7 days per week, in line with the business needs.  Shifts are confirmed by telephone on a daily basis therefore you are required to have a telephone in order to determine your hours of work.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and committed to a Safety First philosophy and always be able to comply with safe systems of work, risk assessments and Company policies and procedures.

Experience of slinging, rigging, mobile plant operations (i.e. forklifts, loading shovel and cranes) would be desirable, but not essential, as the Company will provide full training through our nationally accredited programmes, ensuring employees have the right skills, knowledge and competence to perform at the required standard.

In addition, successful candidates will also possess a high standard of numeracy, literacy, IT skills and be able to work under their own initiative or equally be able to work as part of a team. Furthermore, the ability to plan, organise, communicate effectively, solve problems and work under pressure would be highly desirable skills.

Applicants will need to be physically fit in order to meet statutory medical requirements for dockworkers and a full driving licence is essential to ensure our employees can safely operate plant and equipment on private and public roads.
