Containers (Lo/Lo)

Much of the Port's container traffic is handled at Teesport Container Terminals - a purpose built facility operated by PD Ports, Teesport and located on the South bank of the River adjacent to Tees Dock.

Teesport Container Terminal 1 (TCT1) offers direct access to the North Sea from its riverside location on the South bank of the Tees. Unrestricted marine access and 24 hour working for both ship operations and gatehouse offer optimum flexibility and turn-round for ship operators and hauliers.

The terminal is equipped with two wide span gantry cranes each operating at a rate in excess of 25 moves per hour.

Building on the success of TCT1, PD Ports has invested in a second facility known as TCT2 based at no. 2 Quay within Tees Dock. Opened in Autumn 2003, Phase 1 of this new facility operates with two wide span gantry cranes each capable of operating in excess of 30 moves per hour. TCT2 offers two berths of 10.9m depth, coupled with the crane out-reach of 32.5m allowing the handling of 13 boxes across, and can accommodate vessels approaching 2500 teu capacity.

TCT2 services the short-sea routes successfully supported by established operators, Containerships OY Limited, into the Mediterranean trades served by Contaz. Far East trades are supported by feeders such as CMA CGM, Mediterranean Shipping Corporation, Delphis and K-Line.

The busy industrial hinterland of the Tees Valley provides export cargoes from the Tees which will see continued growth at these terminals for the foreseeable future.
